Roughly fifty vehicles have been smeared with what seems to be blood from a person in the Germany's city of Hanau close to Frankfurt, according to authorities.
Cars, building surfaces and postal boxes were vandalized, in some cases with prohibited symbols, they reported in a release.
Officers state they were contacted in the late hours on Wednesday evening, when a man observed that a car in the Lamboy district of Hanau had been marked with a red-colored liquid.
The liquid had been placed in the form of a banned symbol, they reported.
Law enforcement then located numerous other marked cars and house walls in the nearby vicinity.
Swastikas are banned in Germany under legislation prohibiting the visible presentation of symbols from the Nazi era.
Officials say preliminary tests suggest the liquid was likely human blood.
"Currently there is no indication as to where it came from; officials are presently not informed of any injuries in connection with the event," they added.
Local authorities stated they were attempting "to resolve the case" and have requested to the community for tips.
An important political figure commented the attack rendered him without words and had to be resolved promptly.
"This incident strikes at the very heart of Hanau and revives the trauma of the extremist terrorist attack in 2020," he wrote on online, recalling the murder of nine individuals by a shooter focusing on individuals of immigrant origin in February 2020.
